Programming a keyless remote transmitter on a Toyota / Lexus vehicle with factory installed keyless entry and alarm. This procedure should work on Toyota's made in the late 90's to the early 2000's, such as the Toyota Solara, Camry, Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia, Sienna, Highlander and Avalon. This procedure will not work on vehicles with a dealer installed remote, i.e.

With a service button / LED on the driver side of the dash-board, such as those with the RS3000 / RS3200 system. Programming the remote involves cycling the locks and ignition.

If the vehicle does not enter programming mode or the locks fail to cycle, it could be a worn lock actuator. Try cycling the locks manually instead of using the power lock button switch on the door. Let me know if this works. It didn't for me. I've been following the key insert and door opening sequence to program my key fob and can't get the car into program mode on my 2008 Highlander Sport. Start with the following conditions: You are in the drivers seat. Key is out of the ignition b. Driver door is open (all other doors closed) c.

Driver door is unlocked (other doors don't matter) 2. Insert and remove the key from the ignition twice within 5 seconds.

Close and open the drivers door twice within 40 seconds. Insert the key into the ignition and remove it. Close and open the drivers door twice within 40 seconds. Insert the key into the ignition. Close the door 8. Turn the key in the ignition on and then off. Remove the key from the ignition.

The power locks should automatically cycle once to indicate that you have successfully entered program mode. Within 40 seconds of the entering program mode. Press both transmitter lock and unlock buttons SIMULTANEOUSLY for a duration of from 1 to 1.5 seconds.

If they cycle twice, the remote has not been accepted. If multiple remotes are to be programmed, repeat steps A-C.
