So after about a week to two of experimenting, I have finally got my personal kernel config to work. For the first week I couldn’t get my kernel working with the ir blaster even after compiling the ‘hdpvr’ module and the ‘lirc_zilog’ module.

There is also new Linux support for the HD PVR 2 and Colossus 2. Jul 13, 2016 Link Also the 1st gen Colossus is there as well have but not. Linux Chat >Ubuntu Hauppauge Drivers HD-PVR 2.

The modules loaded, the firmware ‘haup-ir-blaster.bin’ loaded, but the /dev/lirc0 (lirc-#zero) wasn’t being automatically created by the lirc_zilog module. I’m writing these instructions because I really couldn’t find exact instructions on how to set this up. I search the web for days and only found fragments of different parts, but none of the instructions worked for me. Let alone they are about 1-2 years old. I think the problem with my kernel config was that the lirc_dev, i2c, rc_core were compiled into the kernel instead of as modules.
